Belgium has been named the most financially burdensome country for investors, with property purchase taxes of up to 12.5% and rental income tax rates of up to 47%, while Cyprus and Malta retain their status as Europe’s leading tax havens, with no annual taxes on residential property ownership.
The sharp increase in the property purchase tax for buyers from outside the EU has been delayed: instead of January 2027, the 15% rate will take effect on July 1, 2027.
