Avcılar is a district of Istanbul province in the European part of the city. Avcılar is known for its location next to one of the most important roads in Istanbul and close to the busiest urban areas of the city, as well as proximity to the new Istanbul Canal project.
The word Avcylar means fishermen in Turkish. This name came from the fact that its inhabitants used to be engaged mainly in fishing, since the area is located on the shores of Lake Kucukchekmedje and the Marmara natural location of Avcılar forms a bridge and the main entrance to the center of Istanbul from its western side, which has made it a strategic place and an important point of defense throughout the history of the city.
The most important advantages of living in the Avcylar area is its location near many vital areas, including the modern Beylikduzu district, as well as excellent views of the Marmara Sea and Lake Kucukcekmedje. A well-developed transport network connects this area with others in the European and Asian parts of the city. There are also several vital social infrastructure facilities and numerous services of the municipality, there are shopping centers and markets.
