HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
The beginning of the castle's history dates back to the XIV century (the current castle was built on the site of a medieval castle). In the archives of 1387, the castle is mentioned as a gift from the king to his Chevalier Seigneur de Beauchamps.
At the beginning of the XVIII century, the castle passed into the possession of the Counts De BEAUMONT, who were the owners of the castle until 1997. The first Count De BEAUMONT is known in the history of France as a brilliant diplomat, philosopher, writer and founder of the French school of counter-espionage "Secret du Roi". His mission in Russia is especially unusual: after dressing up in ladies' attire, the count became a confidant of Tsarina Elizabeth - for many years he remained her favorite maid of honor.
During the French Revolution, the medieval castle was destroyed and in its place the son of Count De BEAUMONT in 1837 erected a new elegant castle, as we see it today, in the Renaissance style. The construction was carried out under the supervision of architect Haussmann (the same one who later changed the architectural appearance of Paris).
The last owner, Count Jean De BEAUMONT, as an officer of the Normandy-Neman squadron (his unit was based in Russia), went through the entire war on the side of the Russian army.
In 2001, the count's widow sold the castle, which had begun to lose its luster, to a group of investors.
After 5 years of restoration, the castle acquired the look it has today: the charm of history and modern comfort.
