Rifugio del Sole (Italian for "Sanctuary of the Sun") is more than just a boutique hotel. It is a place of strength, history and inspiration, which harmoniously combines centuries-old traditions and modern comfort.
The history of the facility dates back to the 15th century. In 1458, Abbot Georgius Pelino, an influential clergyman and diplomat from the Benedictine abbey of Santa Maria de Roteto, donated this plot of land and 75 ducats to his assistant and court pharmacist Antonio Belli as a sign of gratitude for his faithful service and concern for the health of the monastic brotherhood.
By 1463, the house was built. Since then, he has become a silent witness to centuries of wars, earthquakes, and the change of empires and peoples — from the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian to the French. Despite this, the object has retained its historical essence and unique architectural aura.
In 2020, a large-scale reconstruction began in order to preserve the authentic atmosphere and architectural elements of the 15th century building. At the same time, modern engineering solutions and high standards of comfort are integrated into the project.
The unique original stone walls, preserved in their original form, provide excellent thermal and noise insulation.
