A brief history of the hotel "Le Nationat" In 1873, the architects Ernest Burnat and Charles Nicati from Vevey built a hotel in Bon Port, Louis Faucherre became its manager. The hotel was located along the strategic route from Lausanne to Valais. Until the end of the 19th century, it was a detached and impressive building, standing between
vineyards and villages of Territe and Vernet. Since 1877, the location of the hotel has been praised in advertising due to its exceptional views of the lake and the Alps. It was one of the most luxurious and modern hotels of its time. However, in the 1880s, due to the tourist boom in Montreux, the hotel quickly became obsolete and around 1890 it had to be renovated to remain competitive with other hotels,
which were built at a feverish pace. In 1894, architect Eugene Yost designed a covered alley and multifunctional galleries (shops and housing for employees), with the aim of
which was partly the creation of a monumental entrance to the hotel, and partly, education
The "gate" at the entrance to Montreux. In 1895, the hotel passed into the hands of the Societe des Heptels National et Cygne, whose main shareholder was Alexander Emery, the future owner of the Montreux Palace Hotel. This company has signed an agreement with Yost to expand the hotel. In 1898, the hotel was raised by one floor, and the interior decoration, interior equipment and furniture were partially renovated. Contractors have been given less than five months to complete some major upgrades! Nevertheless, the success in the work and the enthusiasm that accompanied it lasted only a few years. The hotel constantly faced significant competition from other hotels in the region. In 1910, Jost reconstructed the interior of the hotel thanks to the Menuiserie Held company, which produced wooden products for the conservatory. The following years were difficult. Two world wars have called into question the future of tourism in Montreux and economic crises have not helped the hotel business. The interior of the hotel was renovated once more in 1955. Later, the hotel, operated by Montreux Ra/Ace SA, was declared unprofitable and closed in 1983. Until 2006, the hotel, which was privately owned, became the subject of great curiosity among the people of Montreux. It was completely abandoned and that is, its walls still reminded of the stormy but glorious past of the hotel.
